Characteristics of the fifth generation computers

In the fifth generation of computer technology, chips, processors, memory, operating systems, and networking have all seen tremendous progress. This computer's development is currently ongoing. Fifth-generation computers are capable of working with artificial intelligence.

Characteristics of the fifth generation computers

Fifth generation computers have started using artificial intelligence. One of the most well-known examples of artificial intelligence in computers is IBM Watson. Other well-known examples include Apple's Siri on the iPhone and Microsoft's Cortana on Windows 8 and Windows 10 computers.

This generation of computers uses ULSI (ultra-large-scale integration) chips. In ULSI chips, millions of transistors are placed on a single IC. 64-bit microprocessors were developed during this period. Besides, they can start using up to 1 GB of the memory chip and flash memory, up to 600 GB of hard disk, and up to 50 GB of the optical disk. The fifth generation of digital computers will be machined with artificial intelligence.

Characteristics of the fifth generation computers:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) has started to be used on computers.
  • Use of optical fibers in circuits.
  • Parallel Processing is used.
  • Perception of commands given by human voice.
  • Development of supercomputers with enormous power.
  • These computers make use of VLSIC and ULSIC technologies.
  • Multiple programs can run simultaneously without interruption.
  • Keyboards, Mouse, joysticks, etc. are used for input in this generation.
  • The WAN (Wide Area Network) and LAN (Local Area Network) are in use.
  • The LCD or LED monitor, as well as the printer, speaker, projector, and other devices, are used for output.
  • This generation of computers includes the desktop, laptop, notebook, ultrabook, Chromebook, touchpad, and PDA.

Advantages of fifth generation computers:

  • No need for air conditioning.
  • This generation of computers is much faster and can multitask.
  • Parallel processing is used, so these computers are able to complete many tasks in parallel.
  • This generation of computers can make decisions by themselves due to the use of artificial intelligence. However, there is still work to be done to improve it.
  • The fifth generation computer will be able to think and make decisions in the same way that humans do.
  • These computers are used to forecast weather as well as predict earthquakes and volcano eruptions.

Disadvantages of fifth generation computers:

  • Various complex software and high level languages are used.
  • Their trash might have a harmful impact on the environment.
  • They are widely used in the manufacturing sector, so the threat of job loss is common.

What is the generation of computers?

From the origin of the first computer to today, due to the improvement of various electronic components of the computer, computers are getting smaller and more powerful, so computers are divided into different categories based on their capabilities, which is called the generation of computers.
